Together with Chile and Hawaii, Namibia is considered to be one of the top three destinations for stargazing in the world. With its generally cloudless night sky, especially in the dry winter months, minimal contamination by artificial light and air pollution, and excellent view of the southern constellations, Namibia has superb stargazing conditions. As such it is favored by professional and amateur astronomers alike.
Hakos Guest Farm:
Two hours' drive away from Windhoek, on top of the Gamsberg Pass, you will find Guest Farm Hakos. Amateur Astronomers especially like the farm, because the high elevation at the edge of the desert gives the best opportunities for observation and photography. A 45 cm (17.7") telescope at f/3.6 designed for astrophotography on a huge English frame mount and a Celestron 14 telescope on a heavy German mount (350 kg) as well as some smaller telescopes are already in operation and ready for use.
Depart after breakfast for Hakos. Arrive before lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure on the farm. Depart again after breakfast the next morning to Windhoek.
Price includes a full board, and two hours of stargazing after dinner.
